Our place

We’ve spent the past few days settling in and we are all finally functioning in the new time zone. The city of Pavia is much larger and more developed than I had anticipated. Because there is a large university here, there are a lot of shops, cafes and bookstores, which cater to the student population. Although it has been a little difficult getting by on my poor Italian, everyone here has been extremely nice and understanding. I’m starting to feel more comfortable and confident walking the streets and exploring. The major supermarket here (as we know it) is on the west side of town (about a 15 minute walk), which most people use to purchase larger amounts of things. Each part of the city has their own butcher, bread shop, wine shop, pasta shop and small market, where people purchase the food they will use that day. It has been nice having to buy smaller portions and also seeing these same shop owners almost daily…they’ve already fallen in love with the bambina!

Steve’s first few days at work have gone really well. He met most of the staff that works in the cardiology research department and was able to sit in on a few interviews with some local Italian families. He also met with Dr. Priori and they were able to come up with many ideas on how to bridge the program over to NYU. He has remarked how compliant the patients are here…they show up with all their personal and family records and don’t question any testing that needs to be done. He’s been really enjoying it so far.

The pictures are of our apartment building, kitchen and our street. The building itself is an old monastery that has recently been renovated and sits on the grounds of a college. Our street is extremely quiet (compared to NYC), mostly residential and just one block away is a street with shops and cafes, where I do most of our shopping.

I hope you are all well! Steve & I are hoping to travel into Milan this weekend, so i'll definitely be posting some more pictures of that - stay tuned!

Hi guys. Glad to hear you are all settling in nicely. Living in a monastery must be cool. I'm sure it can't compare to St. James Armenian Bazaar, but it looks cool. Seren looks like she is ready for a big bowl of pasta. Hope you brought plenty of bibs for the bambina!
Keep up the good work blogging Terry. Take care.
