Il bel far niente

Ciao! The week has been nice and relaxing and I am beginning to settle into the experience of what Italians call, “Il bel far niente”, meaning “the beauty of doing nothing.” Generally speaking, Italians really know how to experience pleasure…and more importantly, not feel guilty for it. Entire blocks of shops close for hours each afternoon, so that the owners can go home to eat and spend some time relaxing with their families….and no one cares! Could you imagine this happening in NYC? There would be some form of rioting involved, I’m sure. And should we mention that most Europeans get at least 6 weeks of vacation a year, with 4 weeks being mandatory by EU law?? and one more thang...there is a gelateria on every block (literally!), none of this pinkberry healthy non-fat business...so you know they've got to be doing something right!

Anyways, here are a few pictures of the piazzas and churches that Seren and I pass on our daily walks about town. We've been sitting in these piazzas just about every afternoon drinking cappuccinos and people watching...and feeling guilt-free. This weekend we head out to Bologna for what many people say is *the best* food in all of Italy...we'll see you after the weekend! We hope you are all well and enjoying checking in on our blog. As Steve would say, it's blogtastic, or blogacious!
Apologies for the short blog, but Steve has been itching to use the computer for more important things...such as work!
